talking redskins and another one bites the dust. what's going on here? >> released yesterday. the coach talked about it today. this was his first availability. he said that was one of the toughest decisions. we all know tim wasn't 100% healthy. but there's a chance he could come back. if nothing else, you know, good for tim to hear. maybe he can work as hard as he was. >> wide receive e anthony armstrong picked up by the miami dolphins and the team signed butler. he started last season in arizona, placed in september with a dislocated ankle. and yesterday, the nfl suspended skin safety, tenard jackson. jackson had already missed 20 games while in tampa for two previous suspensions. he found out about the suspension friday and disappointed. jackson appealed the decision, requesting a lesser penalty, but it was denied.

labor day weekend kicks off today with the annual ward 8 family day at oxen run park. it came from d.c. fire and e.m.s. it's one of the fun features. it started at noon and ran until 8:00. there was also entertainment and food. the event is sponsored by marion barry. one florida high school girl is hoping she'll get her start on the football field. fox's alex has more from the teenager that is ready to suit up as cornerback and make some history. >> listen up. >> south plantation senior has quite the arm. >> what sport? >> she is making history as

the first girl in the state to play quarterback on a boy's varsity football team. >> she is good. i want to inspire other girls to come out and do something that someone told them they can't do. >> 17-year-old drafted, who coached her in girls flag football, knew she had the skills to play tackle with the boys. >> if she was a legitimate football player, then she wouldn't be here. >> she does everything with the boys. throwing, to running, and wears the pads if she's tackled, which concerned her parents at first. >> how cool is this for your kid to have her dream come true? >> erin is the third string quarterback and if the team is doing well enough against nova on friday, she will get a chance to play. >> it's my biggest goal right now. that's what i'm looking forward to. >> erin has the whole season to make her dream a reality.

>> people come up to me and say that's so cool you are playing football. they really think i'm cool. >> she says she doesn't mind standing out as the only girl among the boys. >> out here, are you one of the guys? >> pretty much. yup. >> in plantation, i'm alex. >> reminder of how important it is to take care of yourself in hot weather. several people had to go to the hospital during the football game today. the problem was mostly the heat. seven people were transported, but medics checked out 29 people at the game for heat or other injures. alcohol did contribute to some of those cases. certainly was hot and muggy today. it was almost unexpected because when you looked outside, looked like it should have been a much cooler day. >> it wasn't the case at all. that mugginess is going to be sticking around a little bit. >> like a bad house guest? >> i say like an unwanted house guest. here's a live look outside for you.

you know what, we've had some storms through parts of our area tonight. skies not too bad over downtown d.c., however. we are actually a little bit in the clear as far as tonight is concerned right now. we were under a severe thunderstorm warning earlier this evening. that expired at about 10:30. but, unsettled holiday weekend is what we're looking at. be prepared. we have more showers and storms. temperatures are going to be close to seasonal. a far cry from where they were today. talk about the heat. dryer and sunny as we move through into the later part of the week for you. and look at these numbers, 95 degrees at reagan national airport. that's 11 degrees above the seasonal average. 92 at dulles. that's 10 degrees plus, 93 at bwi. so temperatures overall anywhere from 8 to 11 degrees warmer than the seasonal average for this time of year. we were really very warm. and it is still mild outside. 85 at quantico. 75 at d.c. we have 76 at baltimore. 73 at gaithersburg.

75 this hour at culpeper and 73 at winchester. let's go to radar. we've had some storms that kicked up tonight and now a lot of activity here to our south. all ahead and along a cold front. this is the frontal system here that is slowly slid its way to the south of us and a lot of instability created as a result of it. because it was warm and really humid today. so this coming into this very warm, unstable air mass. a lot of lightning in these storms as well. will wane out in the overnight hours. we still can't rule out another additional isolated storm popping up here and there and scattered showers into the d.c. region and areas to our north and south. you can see a little bit of where this frontal system is now as it gradually starts to slide its way down. let's go to our weather map. we have widespread wet weather to talk about. take a look at this. you see the spin in this? this is the remnants of isaac and this is going to move its way towards us as
